Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) called the banks after SVT’s Uppdrag gränskning’s attention-grabbing program last winter, where the viewers could follow the telephone fraudsters almost in real time.
On Monday, another meeting took place where the bank managers and the Banking Association had to present measures for how to reduce fraud.
Below you will find out some of the measures that were taken up during the meeting.
Here are the scammers’ favorite victims: “The most vulnerable”
This is how the banks must stop telephone fraud against the elderly
It is partly about wanting to develop the systems that monitor transactions, including by making extra checks, setting amount limits and introducing time delays linked to certain transactions.
– Banks have the option of setting up different types of limits where the system finds a red flag, for example a customer may have to authenticate the payment once more or call up and explain, says the CEO of the Bank Association Hans Lindberg.- The customers can certainly in certain situations experience that it becomes a little more complicated, but it is in the best interest of the customers to strengthen security.

Block people from using Swish
The banking association also points out that it must be easier to “strangle various products” to make it more difficult for fraudsters and criminals. This could, for example, involve blocking people from using Swish and Bank-id.
This is how Swish can change – announcement from the major banks today
Should be easier to report the crime
Another important measure is to make it easier to report this type of crime to the police, emphasizes Lindberg.
Is it enough to limit fraud?
– We will see the curves shift in the future, he says and adds: – The banks are about to implement a series of measures already now and this work will continue in 2024 and 2025.
Are there more actions in the works?
– We will follow the implementation and then notice which types of measures work and which ones don’t matter so much and then we have to take further steps forward to deal with this.
The Tax Agency warns the Swedish people about companies: “Reported to the police”
He points out, however, that we are not at the finish line yet.
– But if the banks do their job, the police do their job, the government and other authorities do their job, I think we can push back the phone scams pretty well.
