The fact that pharmaceutical residues are not cleaned away in the treatment plants and flow into the waterways is today a serious problem for both animal and human health. With today’s technology, only around 20-30 percent of drug residues are removed. In two places in the world, including in Strömsund in northern Jämtland, a completely new technology is now being tested to remedy the problem.
In a container at the treatment plant in Strömsund, the world-unique project funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is currently taking place, where a completely new method cleans the wastewater from pharmaceuticals.
