Many Swedes want to take their leave during Christmas and New Year to celebrate the holidays with family and friends and at the same time get some well-deserved time without work.
Several days during the period are also red days, which means that you can be off for an extra long time without having to take too many valuable vacation days.

But spending all your vacation days before the end of the year doesn’t always have to be a good idea.
It is possible to save vacation days for next year. If, for example, you would rather be off for an extra long time during the summer, you can choose to save a certain number of vacation days this year and then take them then.
According to the Holidays Act, you as an employee have the right to save the days that exceed 20 for a year. For example, if you earn 25 vacation days, you have the right to save five for the next vacation year and so on.
However, holiday rules may vary depending on your agreement. Some collective agreements can give you more than 25 vacation days, which, as mentioned, also means that you can save more days for the next vacation year, something News24 previously written about.

Whether you want to save vacation days or not, it’s always nice to take some of them around Christmas and New Year’s – especially this year.
Namely, 2024 is one of the best years in a long time when it comes to getting a lot of time off for few vacation days.
This is because many red days fall on weekdays this year, which Nyheter24 previously wrote about.

This year’s red days fall in a way that allows you to get a full two weeks off – by taking only five vacation days.
And you can get even longer leave if you want to take a few more vacation days.
As stated above, Monday 6 January is a red day. If you take an extra four days off that week – January 7, 8, 9 and 10 – you get a 20-day vacation with just nine vacation days taken.
Not bad!
