When comparing World Cups organized by the International Ski Federation, the king of prize money can be found in alpine skiing.

Kerttu Niskanen earned the most prize money in the World Cup among the Finns in the winter sports season that ended.
Niskanen earned prize money for more than 131,000 euros. He won three World Cup races during the season and was on the podium a total of six times. Niskanen was fifth as the best Finn overall in the World Cup and fourth in the normal distance Cup.
In the previous season, Niskanen won the overall race for normal distances. At that time, more than 150,000 euros were collected in prize money.
The overview includes the most followed FIS skiing disciplines in Finland, i.e. cross-country skiing, ski jumping, combined and alpine skiing.
The second best Finn was also a cross-country skier, Krista Pärmäkoski. He earned more than 47,000 euros.
Third on the Finnish list is Iivo Niskanen, for whom the season was ragged. Despite that, he received 41,000 euros and at the same time the third most prize money in his career.
1. Kerttu Niskanen: 131,500 euros
2. Krista Pärmäkoski: 47,400
3. Iivo Niskanen: 41,300
4. Johanna Matintalo: 30,000
5. Niko Kytösaho: 27,600
6. Jenny Rautionaho: 26,400
7. Lauri Vuorinen: 26,300
8. Elian Lehto: 22,700
9: Antti Aalto: 16,400
10. Joni Mäki: 13,200
Good prize money is enjoyed in hill jumping. Although the Finns didn’t celebrate in the top places, for example Niko Kytösaho grabbed prize money for over 27,000 euros.
When international stars are included, the number one has beaten Switzerland in crushing style in the men’s alpine skiing world cup overall competition Marco Odermatt. More than 830,000 euros in prize money accumulated in the cash register.
The biggest alpine star for women in recent years Mikaela Shiffrin has sometimes received the most prize money of the entire group of sports. In the 2022–23 season, he became the first alpine skier to cross the $1 million mark in prize money for a single season.
Now Switzerland has won the overall competition and three crystal balls Lara Gut-Behrami was the second among the alpine skiers after his countryman after grabbing almost 590,000 euros in prize money.
Norway’s ski scare Johannes Höfslot Kläbo was the cross-country skier who received the most prize money for the third year in a row, even though he did not participate in, for example, the Tour de Ski. However, he took a lot of race wins.
Kläbo’s pot was more than 335,000 euros.
Still, he won the overall World Cup race Harald Östberg Amundsenwho collected points more evenly when Kläbo was sick.
In combined, the prize money is the smallest of the compared sports. On a streak of ten wins Jarl Magnur Riiber received commissions for 45,000 euros.
Competition fees are of course only a small part of winter athletes’ income. Especially personal partnerships and agreements with equipment manufacturers come into play.
