At the World Championships in Glasgow, prize money of around 2.3 million euros was distributed. Two world records were set.
When Saga Vanninen20, took Finland’s second medal in the history of the World Indoor Championships on Friday night, it also had financial significance for the young athlete.
For his silver medal, Vanninen earned $20,000, i.e. around 18,500 euros, in prize money paid by World Athletics, the umbrella organization of athletics.
The world championship was paid 40,000 dollars or 37,000 euros at the World Championships in Glasgow. Dutch quarter miler Femke Bol and Bahamian speeder Devynne Charlton in addition to the gold reward, they earned a world-record bonus that was higher than the amount paid for the win: 50,000 dollars or 46,000 euros.
The bronze medalists in Scotland were paid $10,000, or €9,200; total prize money was paid to the best six in each sport.
In the relay races, the rewards were divided equally among the team members.

A total of 651 athletes participated in the Games: 331 women and 320 men from 133 countries. That was 29 athletes and four countries less than two years ago in Belgrade.
This was influenced by the fact that the EC outdoor track championships are already in early June. In addition, Russia and Belarus are excluded from the competitive activities of the umbrella organization World Athletics.
13 of the winners of last summer’s World Championships in Budapest participated in Glasgow, seven of those who won individual Olympic gold in Tokyo 2021.
