This is how Mona Brorsson will be celebrated in Sweden after the announcement about the future – reveals great surprise herself: “Why do people care?”

One of Sweden’s most meritorious biathletes ends his career.
Now Mona Brorsson is celebrated in front of packed stands in Stockholm.
I feel like – why do people care?, she says.

It was during the WC that Mona Brorsson announced that this season will be her very last as a biathlete. Brorsson is one of Sweden’s longest active biathletes, and has long been the great veteran of the Swedish national biathlon team.

That’s how she should be celebrated

When Brorsson made her announcement, several of her teammates were in tears when they talked about how much she meant to the national team. In total, only three World Cup competitions and the Biathlon Championship in Boden remain before Brorsson says goodbye. But already on Monday, Mona Brorsson will be thanked and praised by the Swedish audience.

For the first time, the biathlon elite compete in Stockholm, when some of the world’s best biathletes compete in the single mixed relay inside Stockholm Stadium, which is sold out. Mona Brorsson competes with Sebastian Samuelsson, and according to the organizer will be celebrated, which was news to Brorsson himself.

– Super exciting. I am a bit nervous. I feel like – why do people care? I really hope I can put on a little show. I see it as an opportunity to thank the audience for doing so much for me, she tells TT.

“Has been overwhelming”

Mona Brorsson believes that the response she has received from the Swedish people since she came out with the news about her future has been “overwhelming”.

– It has really stirred up reactions. It has really been overwhelming. I didn’t know people cared so much. That’s what you hope for after a long sports career, that it will mean something and that someone has cared. People seem to have done that, she says.

For Mona Brorsson, however, it is not just a competition where she will be in the spotlight. Her hope is to give visitors to the capital value for money, and for spectators to open their eyes to how much fun biathlon is.

– There is a lack of biathlon in the capital. I hope we can still establish that, says Mona Brorsson.

Stars such as Elvira Öberg, Martin Ponsiluoma, Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen (Norway) and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Émilien Jacquelin from France also participate in the competition.
