Lasse Granqvist has changed his way of commenting.
It is to reduce hatred in society.
– There is an influence of the present, he says to Expressen.
The European Football Championship is in full swing and something similar is in the commentator’s cabin. During another championship, Lasse Granqvist is one of TV4’s star commentators, and together with the expert Hanna Marklund, he forms an appreciated and well-liked duo.
That is why he has changed
The duo has commented on major championships for several years now, but not everything is the same when it comes to Lasse Granqvist’s commentary. He himself says that he changed his way of talking during the matches, and he has a clear example of that.
Granqvist says that he thinks a lot about the hatred that exists on social media, and he does not want to contribute to it in any way.
– Most recently in the European Championships when Switzerland beat France, when Mbappé beat the last penalty, which Yann Sommer saved, then it is very easy to angle that Mbappé misses, because he is the big and most described, Granqvist says, and continues:
– – But Lotta Schelin and I drove on that Yann Sommer saves, that Sommer is a hero instead of Mbappé being the scapegoat. There is an influence of the present, of threats and threats, as against Jimmy Durmaz, who is raging on social media.
“It is possible to re-weight”
Granqvist thus believes that he now focuses on the positive instead of looking for the negative in what happens on the pitch.
– Those who watch like that you call an apple an apple and an oblique kick an oblique kick, but if you can choose how to balance it, it is not stupid to think about. I never think I would have commented on mistakes during the game today as I did 30 years ago. But I do not feel: “Now I have to hold back”. But you can focus on rescue more than miss.
Lasse Granqvist believes, however, that he also gets hatred sometimes, but that it is not possible to compare with his female colleagues.
– Yes, but there is definitely a clear bigger challenge for girls. Lena Sundqvist, who also comments in this championship, can testify to that, but it is not as if we men get away. Hasse Backe and I have been told more than once that we should be fired during the Champions League. Oh yes!
