This is how Ikeas new meatballs will start serving

Many associate Ikea with a variety of iconic furniture and objects, including the bookshelf Billy, the sofa Klippan and the armchair Impala.

But the Swedish furniture store giant has also become synonymous with a certain dish – namely meatballs, which took place on Ikea’s menu 40 years ago.

“The secret recipe used today was developed in the 1980s by the chef Severin Sjöstedt. Today, new attempts are constantly underway with other variants of the beloved buns, not least plant -based, “the company writes on its website.

New meatballs are produced after 40 years

And that the meatballs have been at Ikea for four decades will now be celebrated.

In a press release, the furniture giant announces that a modern version of the arrangement will soon take place on the menu. These meatballs are made by none other than Jessie Summer Ström which also produced starters and main course on the 2024 Nobel dinner.

– We are extremely pleased that Jessie Sommarström, with her passion for food and deep gastronomic knowledge, has developed a new meatball to pay attention to the fact that the court has been at Ikea for forty years, says Marcus CarlssonCountry Food Manager at IKEA Sweden, in a press release.

– Together we see a great potential in changing the view of herbal food by making a modern version of one of the most iconic dishes we have at Ikea.

So Ikea’s new meatballs become

The new meatballs will consist of half meat, half mastered from Swedish -grown legumes.

– I am incredibly happy to do this together with IKEA, a brand that I think is always at the forefront. The fact that they are now taking the world’s most famous meatball into the future by making it more healthy is really inspiring and a proof of courage and a desire to look ahead, says Jessie Sommarström in the press release.

The meatballs in question will be sold from February 10, for a fixed -term period, for SEK 45. Just like the classic variant, the meatballs are served with cream sauce, lingonberry jam and cucumber. Both boiled potatoes and mashed potatoes are offered as an alternative.
