Daniel Nyqvist’s brother: “Never shown violent tendencies”
The breakthrough in the investigation came after the police called in the genealogist Peter Sjölund. He was able, with the help of DNA found in connection with the crime scene, to identify two possible suspects: Daniel Nyqvist and his brother.
After Nyqvist was arrested, it was established that his DNA matched one hundred percent the DNA found at the scene – something that came as a shock to the family. In an early interrogation with the brother, he stated that Nyqvist could “never” be guilty of the double murder.
– Because he is so kind. He has never shown violent tendencies, the brother replied when the interrogator asked why that would not be possible, according to SVT.

During the trial, the brother described the relationship with Nyqvist as good, even though they had not had much contact in recent years. He also painted a picture of how, growing up, they were different:
– He was very kind and caring, and at the same time very withdrawn. He enjoyed being at home best. I was out playing instead, he said, according to The evening paper.

Childhood friends of Nyqvist were also heard during the trial. According to them, Nyqvist changed radically when he went to high school.
– The Daniel I grew up with was a happy guy. During the early 2000s, Daniel began to change drastically, said one of them, according to Aftonbladet.
– First he dropped out of high school to start again. Then came other changes. The Daniel we grew up with never touched tobacco or alcohol, it was unthinkable, continued the friend, who also described how Nyqvist isolated himself and started drinking beer.
The friends lost contact with Nyqvist in connection with this.
