Artturi Lehkonen was injured in the match between Colorado and Seattle last week. According to Ismo Lehkonen, good physical condition helped that the injury was not worse than this.
Finnish forward of the Colorado Avalanche Artturi Lehkonen suffered an ominous injury in last week’s game against the Seattle Kraken.
The 28-year-old crashed head first into the side, and was taken to the hospital for further examinations. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said a reporter following the team by Peter Baugh according to Lehkonen’s case, however, it is not a matter of a head injury.
The Finnish striker was conscious after the blow and his limbs functioned normally.
Lehkonen’s father and Urheilu’s hockey expert Ismo Lehkonen tells about his son’s situation in more detail in the Ikan änäri podcast.
– He was throwing around like a bad stone. Arttur’s reach, position and high speed were the worst possible in the situation. In the wrong position, the dome snapped forward facing the side.
Isä-Lehkonen says that the boy has, so to speak, formed an “airbag” in the shoulder area due to physical training.
– Fortunately, Arttur’s physique is in such condition in the shoulder and head area that it didn’t get any worse. It has been practiced for tens of years.
The fall in the situation was caused by a collision with a Seattle defender Jamie Oleksi too with.
– I don’t think it was a situation worth freezing. It was just contact where Lehkonen lost his balance and plunged headfirst into the wing, head coach Bednar said earlier.
Being injured is a scary place for a player’s loved ones.
– This father’s job is the most challenging task that the guy upstairs can give. One’s own children become an eternal worry in such situations. When children play sports, these phone calls and events have been seen when, for example, children have been transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Ismo Lehkonen says that Artturi currently has to use a neck support and the gambler’s mother has flown to Denver as a personal driver.
Lehkonen says in the podcast that the situation does not require surgery, but it will take a long time before Artturi returns (to the playing fields). Head coach Bednar, on the other hand, said earlier that Lehkonen will be on the sidelines for several weeks.
A difficult early season for the champion candidate
On the first field together Mikko Rantanen and by Nathan MacKinnon Lehkonen, who spent the beginning of the season with
– You can’t replace Lehko, Bednar told earlier.
Rantanen is also upset about Lehkonen’s injury.
– He can do everything. This is a big loss for our team. We have to find ways to win games without him. It will be difficult.
– It will take time, but he will come back at some point during the season and put the competition tag on his back, Ismo Lehkonen sums up about his son’s continuation.
Lehkonen, who scored Colorado’s decisive goal in the second season that culminated in the championship, has scored 3+5=8 power points in 12 games in the early season.
During the season, Colorado has taken an extraordinary amount of big losses for the team: to Vegas (0–7), Buffalo (0–4) and Pittsburgh (0–4).
Last weekend’s loss to St. Louis was a wake-up call for the team.
– Fortunately, they have one of the best coaches in the NHL. When Colorado lost 2–8, Jared Bednar barked at the team’s goalie that he can’t catch the pucks, the defenders can’t deliver pucks to the attackers and you can’t find anything about the attackers, Lehkonen says in the Ika änäri podcast.
At the start of the season, the Avalanche were one of the biggest favorites to win the Stanley Cup. The team is currently fourth in the Western Conference.
