This horror series is rightly not dying out Amazon has

In 2019, 31 years after Chucky – The Murder Doll and 6 sequels later, there was a reboot of the first part: Child’s Play. And this new edition is surprisingly fun. Director Lars Klevberg proves that Reboots work after allif the proposal is taken seriously. Here that means leaving out the seriousness and you can stream the whole thing on Amazon for a small rental fee.

The murderer doll is back: That’s what the Chucky reboot is all about

Anyone who knows the original from 1988 knows exactly what the murderer doll is all about. Chucky is the name of one talking toy dollwhich is incredibly popular with toddlers in the US. When Andy Barclay (Gabriel Bateman) finally gets his hands on his own copy in the reboot, the joy quickly gives way to mistrust and irritation. Chucky apparently has his own personality, which is primarily driven by his lust for murder.

Chucky fans will get their money’s worth with Lars Klevberg’s reboot. The original was already a comedy and the cast makes it clear that everything should be taken with a big wink. Awkward comedy genius Aubrey Plaza plays Andy’s single mother, Karen, and provides a healthy dose of unpleasantly funny situations. Chucky is voiced by none other than Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill. It couldn’t be more absurd.

This makes the horror remake a film of our time

Even Tom Holland’s Chucky from 1988 didn’t take himself particularly seriously when Brad Dourif was trapped in a doll by voodoo magic. Not to mention the screams of his doll existence. The reboot is completely up to date. The new edition plays with the slip-ups and peculiarities of today’s AI systems such as Alexa or Siri.

Child’s Play also pokes fun at horror films that are often far too serious by reducing typical situations to absurdity. The reboot may not be a revolution. But you can feel that the template was respected. Fun and trash are top priority and you shouldn’t miss it.

Do you want to see a reboot that’s actually worth it? With Child’s Play, released in 2019, horror, Chucky and comedy fans will get their money’s worth. Great horror comedies are rare, but this is one.

Child’s Play streams from Amazon, Apple, Maxdome and other providers for a small rental fee.
