This slasher, set in 1980s Hollywood, promises to be a big hit in theaters this summer.
Who said that summer wasn’t a good time to watch horror movies? If the sun isn’t out or the heat is too overwhelming, you can still rush to the cinema to see this slasher, the last in a trilogy that has won over audiences and critics in the past.
Released in 2022, X was the first installment of the franchise created by Ti West. This Chainsaw Massacre in the adult film industry, which took place in the 1970s, was then followed by its prequel, Pearlwhich told the origins of the villain from the first episode, this time in Texas, during the First World War, against a backdrop of psychological horror. In both films, we find the actress Mia Goth (seen in the remake of Suspiria, The Secret of the Marrowbone Or Emma), who embodies both the heroine of the film and the antagonist. She also returns in the third and final part of this saga, MaXXXine.
New slasher, MaXXXine takes place several years after Xas Maxine Minx, the sole survivor of the massacre in the first episode, seeks to become a film actress in 1980s Los Angeles. When she finally lands the role she’s been looking for, she discovers that a mysterious killer is stalking Hollywood stars, and that her own dark past could be revealed at any moment. Facing Mia Goth, audiences will recognize Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Giancarlo Esposito (breaking Bad), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris) or Kevin Bacon (Mystic Rivers) and Michelle Monaghan (True detective).
