Horror highlight Bodies Bodies Bodies sends Gen Z into their own hell

It all starts with a weekend party, for which Sophie (Amandla Stenberg) brings her new love Bee (Maria Bakalova) to her circle of friends (including Rachel Sennott and Pete Davidson). It mainly consists of egoistic unrealistic zoomerswho come from at least the upper middle class or are already affluent.

When they start the party game Bodies Bodies Bodies about a fictional murder hunt, suddenly one of them really dies. Breaks fast panic and paranoia out in the group while an approaching hurricane cuts power and WiFi.

In Halina Reijn’s film, smartphones are often the only source of light for the characters to find their way in the deadly darkness. Much more malicious are the visible findings and escalations, while the group tears each other up with accusations and one corpse after another appears. Bodies Bodies Bodies trumps above all with grandiose tips against the typical behavior of the young characters.

Even more than the new Scream film, the director captures the attitude towards life of Generation Z, throwing Twitter buzzwords at each other without any sense or reason. Unsurprisingly, she (with a potential killer beneath her) despairs helplessly in the real world.

Bodies Bodies Bodies

But Bodies Bodies Bodies isn’t a finger-wagging film about young people staring at their cell phones. Halina Reijn counters the quirks of her characters more with one playful spiteunder which she also mixes a lot of authentic compassion.

The circle of friends from this story is not just hollow, annoying fodder for rough kill setsbut sometimes seems as if the cameras happened to have happened at a meeting of real young people.

The stylish film, set somewhere between Spring Breakers, Heathers and Friday the 13th, always hits the right note over-the-top slasher fest and clever satirewhile the zoomers perish in the hell they made themselves.
