Many quiz fans dream of taking part in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? But what if the dream comes true and turns into an absolute nightmare on the spot? Something similar happened to a current candidate. For the first time in years, the popular RTL quiz show had an embarrassing total failure: the participant failed the 500 euro question and suffered a bitter defeat.
Embarrassment on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?: The candidate could not answer this 500-euro question
It is much easier to guess the answer to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire from the comfort of your own living room. In the studio, on the other hand, it is pure tension: hundreds of eyes are on the candidates, and every wrong answer could mean the end. It is therefore not surprising that the participants sometimes brood over a question for minutes. At home, the answer often seems obvious and could be logged in in a matter of seconds, but live in front of Günther Jauch, the whole thing often looks much more difficult.
This is what happened to candidate Stefan Severin, who tried his luck in the Monday episode on May 27. The young man failed to answer the 500 euro question, even though it was based on a well-known saying. According to RTL, the question was as follows: How is the proverbial ‘sunshine’ characterized, which is meant to show that everyone is happy and content?
The answers available were A: vain, B: flirtatious, C: affected and D: smug.
Those familiar with the saying would have immediately chosen answer A, but Stefan Severin does not seem to be familiar with the expression. At first he tends towards the answer option “flirtatious”, but Günther Jauch tries to help him with a hint. After the 50:50 joker, however, the candidate is still helpless: when “vain” and “affected” remain, the young man chooses the wrong answer.
The consequence is bitter: Stefan Severin has to go home with zero euros.
Candidate loses everything on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?: That hasn’t happened in a long time
Günther Jauch tried to give the loser hope nonetheless. The presenter referred to a special episode of the quiz format in which all zero-euro losers can fight for victory once again: “And whenever we have five or six together, we do what’s called a ‘zero special’!”
However, the candidate will probably have to be patient for a long time. The last candidate who got no votes was three years ago. It will probably be many years before enough participants can be gathered.
