Maria Huntington published a situation update on social media, where she said that she hopes that she will get her passion for sports back one day.
Finnish track and field star, seventh seed Mary Huntington26, posted an update on Instagram that she describes as her most difficult yet.
– It’s more time-consuming to keep up the stage than to tell you honestly what’s going on.
– I got tired of elite sports. The internal fire was no longer enough to carry me and I noticed that I was no longer getting what I had gotten from top sports in the previous years.
Huntington writes that he has had to deal with a lot of shame during the summer.
– How can it be that I don’t have that fire, when it feels like all the other athletes have a burning flame. It has been difficult to admit this to myself and loved ones and now to you.
Huntington says he hopes to get his athletic passion back. However, he reflects that it cannot be forced and that it requires time.
– However, behind all the excitement and fear, there is a relief to say these feelings out loud, which I don’t think I’m alone with. The relief of being able to just be Maria for a while, without the athlete’s prefix.
Last summer, Huntington stopped its competition season already in July due to the after-effects of the coronavirus. Huntington therefore did not participate in August’s European Championships in Munich, for which he had already been selected.
Last season was difficult for Huntington anyway, and he didn’t play a single 7-a-side game until the end due to injuries.
Tampere’s Pyrinnö player’s sports career was on a strong upswing in 2019. That year, he set his 7-match record, among other things. The 6,339 points at the Kaleva Games in Lappeeranta qualified Finland for three places in the all-time statistics.
Since then, the competitor’s years have been filled with injuries, which says a lot that he last finished the match at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Last fall’s Huntington also recovered from surgery.
In May of this year, Huntington ran a time of 13.29 in the 100-meter hurdles. The competition was Huntington’s first since June of last year.
– There has been a lot of fear during the spring about what if something happens again. Yesterday was a relief in terms of the fact that this is going to be good. I can stay healthy and really do sports without pain, Huntington said to Urheilu after that run.
At the end of May, Huntington was scheduled to play a full 7 match at the Götzis International Games in Austria. However, he had to stop right away in the first event due to a nasty fall in the 100-meter hurdles.
After Götzis, Huntington has competed in Jyväskylä at the beginning of June. Since then, he has not been seen at the competition venues.
