This gadget that parents think is practical in the car

On social networks, an emergency doctor alerts parents to the danger of a head accessory, used during car journeys.

If you are parents, grandparents or even if you have children around you, you have certainly already noticed that young ones generally adopt particular positions when they fall asleep in the car. Installed in their car seat, they place their head on the headrest of the booster seat, or raise it with their eyes closed towards the roof of the car. And often their head falls forward. To prevent long-term neck and neck pain, some parents use a headrest for their child. A type of headband or strap that attaches to the car seat and is placed on the front of the child’s forehead. Result: with this accessory, parents believe that their child’s head is held in complete safety. Unfortunately, it is not the case.

An inevitable danger in the event of an impact or accident

In a video posted on Tiktok, a professional emergency doctor, alias @docteur.urgences, looks at four rules to adopt in the car with a child. In particular, it warns parents and adults responsible for children about the risks of child head straps, which attach to the car seat.

Indeed, in the event of a car accident or sudden braking, if the child’s head is held by a strap, his neck and torso will move directly forward, while his head will remain held in place: the risk is therefore that he “break your neck”, warns the caregiver. Furthermore, brain damage could form in the child’s skull due to the impact, and if the strap is poorly positioned, it could injure the child’s face when falling. The emergency doctor therefore advises parents not to buy this type of accessory for their child, even if it seems very practical at first glance.
