This overwhelming drama has attracted generations of spectators. There is still time to discover it in streaming.
Certain streaming platforms offer to (re) discover cult films that have marked generations of spectator. It is possible to view one of them on Disney+: noted 4.4/5 by more than 2,000 Linternate readersthis drama has turned the public upset and remains timeless, 34 years after its release.
The intrigue plunged spectators in the late 1950s, in a prestigious and rigid school of the United States. Brilliant students, intended for major studies, meet there an English literature teacher with educational practices in total oppositions with the values of this austere institute: he advocates anti-conformism, the development of the personality by poetry, and the fact of taking advantage of the present moment and freedom. This teaching will forever change these corseted students in a vision of the world stranded by their parents, or their other teachers.
Directed by Peter Weir, The circle of missing poets is a dramatic comedy that stages big names in American cinema: the late Robin Williams (Will Hunting, Madame Doubtfire) plays the role of this teacher-poet, against Ethan Hawke (Welcome to Gattaca, Black Phone, Before Sunrise), or Robert Sean Leonard (Doctor House).
And as much to say that this film was a popular success since its release in 1990, becoming cult thanks to its reply “Oh Captain, my captain!”. On Linternate, most of the opinions are rave, some praise a “magnificent” and “cult” film, “which makes literature love and that makes you want to be free”. “I have tears in my eyes every time I see him again,” wrote one of them, when another believes that “from the first minute to the last, Robin Williams is breathtaking”. The circle of missing poets is currently available on the Disney+streaming platform, but also on Filmo.
