This fantasy crime thriller sends 2 undead on a monster

In 2022, Sandman, the series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s popular comic series, arrived on Netflix. The Sandman universe will soon have a spin-off on the streaming service with the big red N, which is also based on the author’s comics. This is how the fantasy crime series stands Dead Boy Detectives in the starting blocks, which now has its first detailed trailer.

The preview promises a crazy genre hybrid of fantasy, horror, crime and comedy. This should be worth a look or two not only for comic fans, but also for fans of series like Sherlock, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and Supernatural. Supernatural screenwriter Fittingly, Steve Yockey serves as creator of the format.

Ghosts solve supernatural crimes: That’s what Dead Boy Detectives is all about

Teenager Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) drifts on after his death in the early 20th century as a ghost his mischief in Great Britain. Years later, when the teenager Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) dies, he keeps Edwin company as an undead and forms a detective agency with him for supernatural cases.

But the duo soon becomes a trio when the Dead Boy Detectives meet the clairvoyant medium Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson). From now on, the three of them go hunting for witches, demons, zombies and all sorts of monsters in order to live out their undead days on earth.

Dead Boy Detectives was originally intended to be a spin-off of the DC series Doom Patrol and would air on HBO Max. In February 2023, however, the series moved to Netflix, where it was produced separately from the superheroes and largely recast. Dead Boy Detectives is now available on Netflix with eight episodes April 25, 2024.
