Although new product delivery platforms emerge every year, others fail to establish themselves. One of them will close its doors after several years of service.
Difficult to establish yourself in a hyper-competitive market. This is particularly the case for services, sites and applications for home delivery of products and meals. In the age of Uber Eats and Deliveroo, it is increasingly complicated for new players to stand out by offering a service different from the biggest popular applications. And failures are commonplace.
This is the sad fate that one of the most downloaded shopping applications and home-delivered products in France will very soon experience. With more than 50,000 downloads on the Google Play Store alone, on Android devices, this brand operated for almost 9 years before finally having to close its doors. This platform, called Epicery, was launched in 2016 with a goal as big as the ambitions of its teams: to compete with Uber in terms of delivering fresh products.
Things didn’t really go as planned and the reasons for the failure are not surprising in a difficult economic context. It was through an official press release that the closure of services on December 31, 2024 was announced. “The food delivery platform sector has gone through particularly difficult times in recent years, and we have not been spared”indicates the Epicery press release.
The company specifies: “Despite our unwavering commitment to supporting local commerce, analysis of our results reveals that our economic model is no longer viable. Despite all our efforts to improve our performance, we are now forced to close our doors , for lack of prospects for recovery”.
The official Epicery website did not yet mention any information relating to the cessation of the company’s activities at the time of writing these lines. But the cessation of services is dated December 31 of this year. It is still possible to place orders or follow those already in progress to be delivered before the end of year holidays.
We can bet that the company will still manage to satisfy the orders still placed on the site, but we cannot recommend enough that you do not hang around if you ever wish to use the service before the end of the year. Through the official end of service press release, Epicery would like to reassure its customers by specifying: “However, we wish to offer you memorable end-of-year celebrations. (…) We remain fully committed to honoring, with your care, your latest orders, with joy and conviviality.”
