Five groups of voters rise to decide the US election. Our correspondent Iida Tikka and our cameraman Jani Saikko went around the groups asking about last-minute moods.
PHILADELPHIA / READING, PENNSYLVANIA The US presidential election is likely to be decided in the state of Pennsylvania. Candidates in the last meters of the election Donald Trump and Terrible Harris have tried to appeal to five crucial groups in the state.
In the video, you can see what these groups are saying about the elections at the last minute.
1 Latino voters
Both candidates are trying to win over as many Latino voters as possible, of which there are hundreds of thousands in Pennsylvania. Latinos are people of South and Central American background.
More and more Latinos have indicated in polls that they support the Republicans. At the same time, many Puerto Ricans were upset that a comedian called Puerto Rico a “garbage island” at a Republican election event. Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean Sea and a self-governing territory of the United States.
2 Dark-skinned
Somewhat unexpectedly, the Democrats have had to take care of one of their big supporters, i.e. dark-skinned voters. A larger-than-usual, but still losing small percentage has announced that they support the Republicans.
3 Opponents of Israel policy
Voters opposed to the current administration’s Israel policy may protest and abstain from voting. However, several protesters have publicly come out in support of Harris, even if they don’t like his politics.
4 Young men
Trump is trying to increase his vote pool by encouraging young men to vote. The former president’s support has grown significantly among young working-class men.
5 Women
Harris’s campaign is strong among women. The campaign has been trying to rally Republican women in suburban Pennsylvania in particular.
