This Bridgerton Star Is Hilarious in This Unfairly Underrated Comedy

The Bridgerton actors had careers before the hit Netflix series. The proof with this main actress who was in the casting of a hilarious, but underestimated series.

It’s difficult to miss the tidal wave that represents The Bridgertons Chronicle, since each season is a hit with audiences to the point of establishing itself permanently in Netflix’s most viewed programs. While many viewers discover little-known English-speaking actors in France, some have already had a career before. This is the case of this main actress, in the casting of a hilarious comedy series in only three seasons, which is nevertheless little known in France.

From 2018 to 2022, the series Derry Girls made Northern Irish viewers cry with laughter before arriving on Netflix in French-speaking countries. Created by Lisa McGee, the 19 episodes of around twenty minutes tell the personal story of the showrunner through the daily life of four young Irish girls and the cousin of one of them, of English nationality, at the start of the 1990s. The particularity being not to tell (only) the lives of sassy teenage girls, but also to paint the Northern Irish conflict in Derry, one of the cities which was most affected.

By using humor and the many absurd situations in which the protagonists find themselves, Derry Girls depicts a serious subject that is still very much alive in the minds of the people of Northern Ireland. Not political bludgeoning obviously, but a painting of the divisions that the country experienced at that time. In the casting, we find the actresses Saoirse-Monica Jackson (The Flash), Louisa Harland (Rebel Nell), but especially Nicola Coughlan, unforgettable Penelope Featherington in The Bridgerton Chronicleswhich here proves the extent of his comic talent.

Made up of only 19 episodes of around twenty minutes, Derry Girls is a candy of absurdity and dark humor that is devoured very quickly. The series has the advantage of ending with a conclusion for the characters, so you won’t have to lament while waiting to discover the rest. In France, all three seasons are available in full on Netflix. And we recommend binge-watching it in the original language (with French subtitles or not) to savor the delicious Irish accent of the actors!
