This bread is the worst for intestinal health and it

He disrupts the intestinal microbiota.

F wholemend, rye, cereals, or even white wand … Bread is considered to be the basis of our diet. 60% of French people consume it almost every day. But not all breads are created for nutritional level. If most are a good source of carbohydrates and energy, one in particular has harmful effects for our intestines. Our dietician-nutritionist explains to us.

The first drawback of this bread is “that it is often white, therefore made from refined flour, which contains a high glycemic index”underlines Sandra Ferreira. “The penetration of sugars into the body is therefore much higher. It’s less good for health”she says. A diet too rich in high glycemic index food (high GI) leads to an excess of sugar stored in the form of fat, promoting weight gain. As a bonus, these foods are little and encourage snacking. This drawback concerns all white breads, especially the famous wand, much appreciated for its taste, but “Not very interesting from a nutritional point of view”warns the expert.

The white wand is not the worst bread for intestinal health, it is rather crumb bread. It is called an “ultra-transformed” food. This means that it contains additives in particular emulsifiers, responsible for giving it its soft texture. Boredom is that these additives weaken the intestinal barrier and disturb the microbiota. A study French published in January 2025 showed that these substances could promote the development of chronic inflammatory diseases and metabolic disorders. According to our interlocutor, we must limit ourselves to “One to 2 slices per day”even when the diet is balanced and favoring healthier alternatives such as rye or full.

The best when you are lover of sandwich bread is to favor that of the baker, “There is no additive or added sugar, but it does not really have the same texture as industrial crumb”. Other good tip: “Choose a full -fry, rye or sugar -added sugar bread.”
