A favorable modification to customers will soon come into force.
A bank that lowers the costs invoiced to its customers, it does not happen every day. A rarity that should be emphasized, even if various large groups have announced to delete certain invoices in 2025. This is notably the case for the withdrawal of liquid money to distributors not belonging to the customer’s bank. An advance, as is that of the abolition of costs when the death of a minor. But that’s not all.
This beginning of the year is also marked by a new change on banking costs. This concerns only a bank, to which 4 million French people are attached. Above all, there are 100 to 150,000 to reach it each month. Growth to make competition pale.
Each year, bank cards cost between 40 and 150 euros, depending on the banks and depending on whether it is a classic or premium card. A significant expenditure which is accompanied by certain advantages, without preventing additional costs. This is particularly the case during a trip abroad. Payment in another currency that the euro results in various conversion and transaction costs from which the customer cannot escape. Except to choose a specific bank.
This is the case with Revolut. This bank, 100% online, arrived in France at the end of 2021. Based in Lithuania, it very quickly won over many customers (4 million therefore) and displays exponential growth. Above all, she made herself known to allow her customers to convert money for free in more than 150 currencies and pay free of charge in foreign countries.
If the conversion is free during the week, costs have so far applied the weekend. From Friday 11 p.m. to Sunday at 11:59 p.m. (French hours), 1% of the converted amount was taken. It will soon be finished for part of the customers. Those with the “standard” offer will continue to pay these 1%, while “plus” customers will only pay 0.5% for a weekend conversion. Finally, for “premium”, “metal” and “ultra” customers, the costs will be deleted. Converting will now be completely “free”, but these offers require monthly subscriptions.
These changes will take effect on April 22, 2025 and should further increase the popularity rating of revolut with the French, especially those who travel. Contacted, the bank refuses to disclose specific figures on the number of customers concerned, simply indicating that “paid plans (plus, premium, metal, ultra) generated 14% of our turnover in 2023.”
