French fashion designer Thierry Mugler has died at the age of 73.
The news of Mugler’s death was announced on his official Facebook account. Mugler died of natural causes, his spokesman told the French news agency AFP.
Mugler was known for his broad-shouldered and unconventional designs inspired by the 1940s and 50s.
Mugler, who designed the costumes of David Bowie and Lady Gaga, also designed Kim Kardashian’s famous “wet dress” at the Met Gala in 2019, along with many of Beyonce’s stage outfits.
In the following years, the Mugler brand became famous with perfumes such as Angel and Alien.
Mugler’s Instagram account shared yesterday with the famous fashion designer, “Imagination is a visionary that encourages people all over the world to be bolder and dream bigger.”
Born in Strasbourg in 1948, Manfred Thierry Mugler started dancing at the age of 14 with the Ballet du Rhin. Mugler, who is also an acrobat and model, opened her first boutique in Paris in the 1970s.
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. But as soon as I showed my sketches, I found myself in the fashion world,” Mugler told Women’s Wear Daily recently.
Among those who preferred the costumes designed by Mugler were George Michael, Sharon Stone and Rihanna.
Mugler also designed the dress that British singer David Bowie, who died in 2016, wore to his 1992 wedding with Somali model Iman.
Thierry Mugler sold the naming rights to Clarins in 1997.
