Thierno Souleymane Diallo presents his film At the film cemetery

The film premiere In the film cemetery by Thierno Souleymane Diallo took place on Tuesday June 27 in Conakry. The work has received several international awards including the special mention of the jury at the Fespaco in Ouagadougou. In this docu-fiction, director Thierno Souleymane Diallo sets out to find the very first film shot by a black man from French-speaking Africa in 1953.

Mouramani was made by the Guinean Mamadou Touré, but there are no reels of it left today. Thanks to him, however, the young filmmaker Thierno Souleymane Diallo questions itself, develops a real manifesto: “ There were a lot of people, a lot of young people, who didn’t have the capacity, the possibility of buying a ticket, and they climbed the tree to watch the film. »

In Guinea, the cinema must be reborn from its ashes: it is dead, it was buried with Sékou Touré. Nothing remains of this golden age of the 7th art under the first Republic. Thierno Souleymane is even a filmmaker without shoes. At the premiere ofIn the film cemeteryhe walks the red carpet barefoot because, he says: In Guinea, there is not a franc to make films. You have a new generation that has a lot of desire, a lot of imagination, but without means, without training, it’s hard to express our cinema. »

A funny, moving, intelligent film that puts Guinea on the big screen. This is what pleased Cellou. “ This is the best time I have spent in a cinema. I saw stories from my childhood, I saw the very history of Guinea in this film, and it really touched me a lot. »

In the film cemetery will be broadcast one last time tonight at the Franco-Guinean Cultural Center.
