Hjortberget has been subject to theft and vandalism for several years. It is not known who is behind the sabotage.
Erik Bergstrand, who is in charge of machinery and snowmaking at Hjortberget, believes that one of the reasons for all the destruction is that the facility is located so centrally in Oskarshamn. Now the staff at the facility are saddened and have decided to install surveillance cameras in the area.
– It will probably happen very soon, there are many people who are keen for cameras to be installed. After all, we do all this on a non-profit basis and it takes so much energy to constantly have to fix things that are destroyed.
Snowmaking, on the other hand, is not affected by the stolen cable. It was plus degrees at the time of the theft, which means that they could not make snow at the time. A new cable was donated to Hjortberget the very next day, and now everything is going according to plan again.
– Right now we are spraying as much snow as we can and we expect to be able to open the slope for skiing by next weekend.
