Stating that they have been performing brain pacing surgery in Turkey for years, Assoc. Dr. Atilla Yılmaz said that the difference in this surgery was that it was broadcast live for the first time. Expressing that neurosurgeons and neurologists attended the course, Assoc. Dr. Yılmaz said, “We are here to increase their knowledge. With this course, we show all the details live from the beginning to the end of the surgery. It also has the distinction of being the first neurosurgery live surgery course in Turkey. Many neurologists from Eastern Europe, Saudi Arabia and the Turkic Republics are currently watching the surgery online.”
“IT IS INTERNATIONAL PROVE THAT OUR EDUCATION IS VERY GOOD”
Denizhan Özhan, a third year student at the Faculty of Medicine, said that he attended the course in order to improve himself. Expressing that a meeting was held at the beginning of the course and preliminary information was given, and then the surgery started, Özhan said, “I took lots of notes here. I think this course will be a big plus for me both in my education and in the future. I hope such activities increase in our country. In addition, the fact that this organization has international access is proof of how good our medicine and medical education are, especially the prestige of our country.
I ATTENDED A COURSE FOR THE FIRST TIME
Attending the course from Sakarya, Assoc. Dr. Yeşim Güzelaras stated that she has been interested in Parkinson’s and movement disorders for a long time. Noting that he received training on this, Assoc. Dr. Güzelaras said, “This course is really beautiful and special. First, we were given general information about Parkinson’s disease by our neurology professors. Then, we learned about the preliminary preparations until the stage of inserting a battery into a patient. This was a very different experience for me. It was my first time to attend such a course and I learned really useful information.”
“WE ARE SO LUCKY”
Noting that the incidence of Parkinson’s is high in Turkey, Assoc. Dr. Güzelaras said, “We are ahead of many European countries in Parkinson’s treatment. Especially in advanced stage treatments… Our physician friends from many countries come here to receive training. They receive education here and apply these methods in their own countries. That’s why we’re very lucky,” he said.
