The customs officials thought that the 53-year-old truck driver appeared to be distracted and did a thorough check of his truck. In the cargo space were pellets and, under the floor of the trailer, 342 kilos of cannabis with an estimated value in the drug category of approximately SEK 40 million.
The driver has admitted the smuggling attempt. He was promised 8,000 euros in compensation, money he had intended to use for the care of his sick wife. The narcotics had been loaded onto the truck near Malaga in Spain, and the driver would find out where it was to be unloaded when he crossed the Swedish border.
A trial has been held and the verdict is due on July 21.
