“They really believe it”: this new scam traps all seniors on Facebook

They really believe it this new scam traps all seniors

Just comment on one of these images to be fooled, and it goes very quickly!

On social networks, scams spread quickly and it is often easy to be fooled. In general, crooks usurp the identity of relatives, official organizations or brands known to inspire confidence. They play on emergency with false alarming messages or offers too beautiful to be true, pushing to act without thinking. Their well -designed techniques and interfaces make their traps credible, even in the most vigilant eyes. But there are also other more devious scams that make it possible to identify potential targets, like the one that is currently raising on Facebook.

The alert was given by a content creator on Tiktok, aka @naiikoon. In a video, he explains the process of this scam that you have probably all seen pass and which mainly targets the elderly. On Facebook, each user sees a content wire composed of posts, videos or images. Nothing abnormal until then. Except that lately, misleading images have invaded the platform. They are generated by artificial intelligence (AI), which makes them all the more credible. For example, in his video @naiikoon unveils a post with an image of a false horse made from carrots, alongside which poses a young boy with a perfect smile and in legend: “I hope you love my work, because no one has loved it yet”, Accompanied by several sad smileys.

It’s simple, in the comments of this post “they (users, editor’s note) really believe it “, underlines @naiikoon. But then, what is the goal behind it? “These images are used to identify potential victims, to find people in the comments that will be pretty gullible or not familiar with AI”, he adds. As was the case in Anne’s affair, victim of a scam at the false Brad Pitt whose damage is estimated at 830,000 euros.

Faced with the scourge of these misleading images which invade the networks, it is therefore crucial to remain very vigilant and to think twice before putting a comment, even if it seems trivial. Because as our ancestors said in the past: “We must not believe everything we see on the internet”and it’s all the more true these days!
