Argentina won their long-awaited World Cup gold on Sunday.
And Lionel Messi finally got to lift the golden trophy.
But now the world champions are required to make a public apology after their inappropriate behavior.
A fairy tale came to a perfect end on Sunday night when the world’s best soccer player Lionel Messi finally got to lift the only trophy he missed during his career. Finally, he got to receive the much-coveted WC trophy and title himself world champion for the very first time.
Argentina’s mockery
The Argentines celebrated like never before on the pitch and then on to the dressing room after the first World Cup gold in 36 long years. On the way, the world champions danced and jumped past the journalists in the mixed zone, led by the team captain and the big fix star Messi.

The players neglected to answer any questions and instead chanted inappropriate taunts at the Argentine journalists on site in Qatar.
“I don’t care what those damn journalists say, born of whores…”, it sounded in one of the singers, see the video below.
“Support the team to the death, because I love Argentina,” the players also sang.

Apology by Messi
Argentine newspapers write that the words were directed at their own home country’s press after several years of criticism and fake news, according to the players themselves. Now the journalist reacts Gianni Merlopresident of the International Association of Sports Journalists (AIPS), strongly demanding a public apology from Argentina and above all Messi.
“Lionel Messi is undoubtedly number one in football, the captain of the Argentina team that won the World Cup. But for that very reason, he should apologize on behalf of the entire team for the song in which he and his teammates insulted us journalists,” writes Merlo in an open letter on the AIPS official website.
“In addition to being great players, they must also be role models, they have become rich thanks to many others.”

The Italian then develops his criticism in an interview with Dagens Nyheter.
– I thought it was my duty as chairman of AIPS to make a strong mark. We will also write to the Argentine Football Association, because it was not only the players but also leaders in the association who sang this song (see the video below), he tells DN.
– The players entered the mixed zone, but instead of answering questions, they insulted us. It is a choice we cannot accept. Because if we accept this, then it is just as well that we are not there.

Merlo sees a gloomy development where athletes with great power whip up the mood against journalists via social media and other channels.
– If we allow this, then everyone in the future can just walk straight through the mixed zone and say that we are, excuse me, “whores”. But I never was. If we accept this, we are lost, he says in the interview.
