According to her calculation, it turns out that, for example, anyone who earns SEK 36,000 a month loses SEK 520 per day. It can then be enough for SEK 180 in compensation for not losing revenue for the pension.
– After a monthly salary of SEK 36,780 (2025), the compensation for VAB is not affected. This means that the person who earns that amount loses more financially by staying at home. Since men, on average, have higher wages than women, it is more often the woman who is allowed to take the main responsibility for VAB.
In addition, she describes that the person who earns the most also has the work that is perceived as most important. And if the family is expanded with more children and the VAB periods thus extend over longer periods, it can have significant consequences for the woman’s wage development and pension, Chireh states.
