They keep an eye on Tofta beach: “A dry lifeguard is a good lifeguard”

In addition to training in the various competition disciplines – for example surf race, board race and flags – the participants have had to accompany those who work closely with safety on the beach.

– They get to walk alongside the trained, and then hopefully gain an interest and attend our sea lifeguard training which is available in Halmstad and Tylösand, says Jonas Holmberg, deputy head of security at Tofta strand and Swedish Lifeguard Society’s union captain.

When it comes to safety and security on the beach, Jonas wants to emphasize the preventive work as the most important.

– An old saying is that a dry lifeguard is a good lifeguard. You should be on the beach and talk to people.

“It would be fun to compete”

The brothers Max and Hugo Törngren live on the island and have been at the training camp.

Do you invest in becoming professional lifeguards?

– Yes, I’ve thought about that, sort of. But you’ll see, time goes by and everything like that, says Max, almost 15 years old.

– Well, it would be fun to compete and get a little better, says 13-year-old Hugo.

And sit in the tower here, maybe?

– Yes, that would be fun, says Hugo.
