The bill presented as the main supporter by 30-year-old Madinah Wilson-Anton, who was elected as the state’s first Muslim female MP in the 3 November 2020 general elections, was accepted by 20 of the 21 members at the state’s General Assembly meeting. Thus, she officially recognized the sanctity of the month of Ramadan for Muslims.

The bill, known as HCR-62, included the phrase “celebrating the blessed month of Ramadan, the month of fasting, self-sacrifice, gratitude and contemplation, and recognizing the Muslim residents of this state who contribute every day to the revival of this state and this nation.”
The bill also called for schools and businesses in the state of Delaware to make it easier for Muslims to live the month of Ramadan and Eid celebrations according to their faith, within the framework of existing laws. (AA)
