A wedding held in the Hamdaniye district of Mosul, Iraq, on the evening of September 26 turned into a disaster due to a terrible incident, and the young couple experienced a nightmare on their happiest day. In the fire that broke out at the wedding, 113 people lost their lives and at least 150 people were rescued with injuries.
The couple, who got married at a wedding in which more than 100 people died, spoke to the British media after the terrible incident. Speaking to British Sky News, 27-year-old groom Revan and 18-year-old bride Haneen talked about the horror they experienced and more…
THEY SURVIVED THE FIRE BUT…
The young couple said that although they survived the fire, they felt “dead inside”. While it was stated that the bride’s mother and brother died and her father was under treatment in intensive care, groom Revan stated that he lost 15 family members and bride Haneen lost 10 relatives and could not speak.
It seems the disaster means the young couple can no longer stay in their hometown.
GROOM: “WE CANNOT LIVE HERE ANYMORE”
Because groom Revan said, “That’s it, we can’t live here anymore. Every time we want to be a little happy, a tragic event happens and destroys our happiness. It’s best to leave. It is true that we sit here before you alive, but inside we are dead. We are numb. “We are dead inside,” he said.
According to initial reports, the fireworks lit for the couple’s slow dance were blamed for the fire that broke out at the wedding, where approximately 900 guests were present. However, Revan believes that the fire somehow started in the ceiling.
HIS WIFE’S LEG WAS CRUSHED
Revan said, “I think the fire started from the ceiling. There may have been a short circuit, I don’t know. It started from the ceiling and we felt the warmth. “The ceiling melted in a few seconds,” he said. Stating that when they noticed the fire, they took his wife in her wedding dress and entered the kitchen door, Revan stated that those who tried to escape from the place crushed his wife’s leg.
Claiming that there was only one fire extinguisher and it was not working, Revan said, “Our relatives, friends and loved ones are gone. Two days ago we buried Haneen’s uncle and his two daughters. We buried his other uncle yesterday. “Today we buried his brother and mother,” he said.
