They fly to Rhodes – despite the risk of spreading

The forest fires around Greece risk spreading, local authorities learn.
At the same time, the Swedish travelers choose to jump on their charter flights down to the inferno.
– I try to disconnect from it and look forward to a warm and comfortable holiday, says Jablan Dimitrijevi, traveler.

Over 30,000 people have been evacuated from Rhodes and nearly 2,500 from Corfu as a result of the forest fires of the past few days.

Now the Greek authorities announce that the fires risk spreading and that the fire risk is extreme in several areas, AP reports.

– We are at war and are exclusively focused on the fire front, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told parliament.

He also warned that the country faces “three difficult days” before the high temperatures are expected to drop later this week.

“It would have been boring to evacuate”

But at Arlanda, the atmosphere is relatively calm and several Swedish travelers plan to carry out their journey as planned.

– We had contact with some friends who are already in Rhodes. They are in the northern parts of the island and they think everything is as usual and that we don’t need to worry. So we decided yesterday that we will travel, says Jelena Dimitrijevic.

The Dimitrijevic family has also been in contact with their travel agency and the airline Norweigan, both of which “gave the green light”.

How worried are you really?

– Pyttepyttepyttepyttelite, or at least me. I try to disconnect from it and look forward to a warm and comfortable holiday, says Jablan Dimitrijevic.

The traveler Albin Jonsson will also hop on his flight to Rhodes as planned.

– I have tried to think as little as possible about it to get away. But it’s clear, it’s a little worrying. It would have been boring to evacuate.
