It is not known what Wouter Verhoef had to do in Camp Amersfoort and in Neuengamme. The family only knows that he died on Christmas 1944, three months after his arrest. “They managed to grow a strong farmer in just a few weeks. The circumstances must have been terrible,” says Henri. “My grandmother looked out the window for years, waiting for him to walk into the yard.”
