The ‘A Stronger Breath Project’, which was implemented in Çankırı with the cooperation of Çankırı Governorship, Çankırı Municipality, Çankırı Karatekin University, Çankırı Provincial Health Directorate, Çankırı Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate, Çankırı Private Karatekin Hospital, Salt Rehabilitation and Health Tourism Association and the Çankırı Branch of the Turkish Green Crescent Society, has begun to bring hope to COPD patients. Various social, cultural and health activities are carried out for COPD patients in the salt cave, which dates back to the Hittite period and is called the “Underground Salt City”.

ACTIVITIES FOR PATIENTS ARE HELD IN THE SALT CAVE

In the cave, which is 150 meters below the ground, patients are exposed to the air in the salt environment and are provided with an active time. In the salt cave, ceramic workshops, marbling arts workshops, musicals, drama, cinema and poetry, healthy sports, physical exercise activities are held for the patients. On the third day of the project, which will continue for 15 days, patients from all over Turkey said that their treatments are progressing positively.

Nursel Sümer, who said that the treatments applied within the scope of the project were good for her, said, “I am coming from Antalya. It is our third day. It is going very well. I have seen the first positive results among the patients. I have been waking up with postnasal drip since yesterday. I noticed that I am very relaxed and can breathe deeply. They take great care of us here. We do social activities in the cave so as not to get bored. We rest our souls and minds.”

Aysun Özdemir, who stated that she came from Kırıkkale to receive treatment in the salt cave, said, “I am coming from Kırıkkale. We heard that there is such a project in Çankırı.
