They can get 1100 in lower taxes in 2025 –

A new year is approaching and, as usual, several rule and law changes are being implemented. On January 1, 2025, among other things, new rules for handling plastic bottles will come into force.

Companies that manufacture PET bottles must make them from at least 25 percent recycled plastic, with the goal of reaching 30 percent recycled plastic in PET bottles by 2030.

An even lower tax is proposed for pensioners

Another change that will take effect on January 1, 2025 affects pensioners around the country.

Already on January 1, 2009, an increased basic deduction was introduced for people who turned 65 at the beginning of the tax year. It was done when they wanted to strengthen the pensioners’ finances.

But as with most things in society, the economy is in constant motion. This has meant that several changes have been made over the years to the basic deduction. And now another change will come into effect on January 1, 2025.

On January 1, 2023, the government raised the age limit to even be able to take part in the increased basic deduction, you then instead needed to be 66 years old in order to comply with the then prevailing norm for retirement age.

Now, instead, they want those who turned 66 at the beginning of the year to receive an additional enhanced basic deduction that costs a total of SEK 1.84 billion.

This means that the country’s pensioners, who have reached the age of 66 at the beginning of 2025, will have their tax reduced by almost SEK 1,100 per person per year. In the memorandum have Ministry of Finance wrote about the proposal previously submitted to the Riksdag.

“In the memorandum, it is further proposed that the increased basic deduction for persons who have turned 66 at the beginning of the year be strengthened by a total of SEK 1.84 billion. On average, the tax will be reduced by approximately SEK 1,100 per person per year for those affected by the proposal to strengthen the increased basic deduction”.

The government wants to reduce taxes by 26.7 billion

The change is also in line with the budget bill proposed by the Minister of Finance Elisabeth Svantesson (M) handed over to the Riksdag in September 2024. In it, it appeared that the total of 60 billion that was to be distributed in the budget, had as much as 44 percent of the total sum distributed on reduced taxes.

The proposal is based on the fact that SEK 26.7 billion will go towards reducing taxes through, among other things, the abolition of flight tax, reduced petrol tax, lower tax on ISK savings and reduced tax for pensioners.

To ease the economic steel bath many of the country’s elderly have undergone in recent years with inflation resulting in high prices for both food and fuel, the government intends to put 2.5 billion of the total 26.7 billion kroner on the country’s pensioners.
