According to an expert, most men systematically reject certain first names altogether, which they would refuse to give to their own child. Here is the list of first names for girls and boys blacklisted by men.
Tastes and colors in terms of baby names are often unique to each parent. Before even making a choice, some people know very quickly whether they want a short first name, an old first name or a compound first name for their future child. And while we might think that mothers generally have very strong choices on the issue, in reality fathers also sometimes have a strong opinion. An American first name consultant, Morgan aka @hellomorgantimm on Tiktok, recently published a series of short videos on feminine and masculine first names hated by men.
What female names are rejected outright by fathers?
During her numerous consultations with future parents, the expert was able to observe, by proposing very precise lists, that certain first names for girls are systematically rejected by future fathers. In the majority of cases, men find them “too vintage” to their taste or “too fanciful”, declares the specialist. For example, we find certain French-speaking first names, notably those derived from fruits or flowers such as Clémentine, Magnolia, Flore (root of Fleur) and Florence, or the first names Elodie, Gwendolyn, Ophelia (derived from the first name Ophélie) and Matilda (derived from the first name Mathilde). Internet users with male profiles subsequently commented on his video and confirmed his statements. One of them declared: “These names are indeed terrible. Choose names that fit the job, not cheesy fantasy novels.”
Male names that fathers don’t like at all
As for male first names, the list established by the expert is less exhaustive. “Men tend to be a little less decided on boy names, unlike girl names”, underlines the consultant. Among those they generally like the least, we first find mixed first names, called “gender neutral names” in the United States, like Charlie which is worn in France. Some parents also commented on the expert’s video and most of them added the first name Morgan.
Generally speaking, future fathers don’t really like first names “from grandfather”, a bit old, like Hugh or Roger. Finally, “intellectual” first names are also not popular with men, notably Simon, Arthur and Theodore.
