Back in the political arena, François Hollande seems to take more thickness to the left. Proof of this is, he would exchange “regularly” with the Prime Minister “to advance” certain files.
Two censorship motions tabled by rebellious France (LFI) were examined and then rejected by the National Assembly this Wednesday, February 5, 2025. The Socialist Party (PS) notably refused to support censorship against the Bayrou government and at the same time , to repel the adoption of a budget once again, even if he judges the latter “bad” for the French.
Last night, the deputy for Corrèze François Hollande assured that this motion of censorship “is not made to bring down the government, but to arrest it” on the values, at the microphone of France 5. “If the RN joined it, at that time, we would take our responsibilities,” he said. In other words: the PS would not even vote its own censorship motion. Conversely, young socialists want to bring down the executive in place. So, did the former President of the Republic had the last word?
“It’s a bit of our president bis”
The influence of François Hollande on the left seems to grow in sight. Since his return as a parliamentarian on the benches of the National Assembly, it is this impression that dominates. “It is a bit of our president bis”, quips a deputy withEurope 1. “In a meeting, President Hollande has always spoken to tip the scales,” said a socialist.
Indeed, the elected Corrézien has always pleaded in favor of common sense, of a certain common interest and above all, of an agreement with Prime Minister François Bayrou. “He has never participated in negotiations, but seeks to assume fatherhood”, plague for his side a support by Olivier Faure, the strong man of the PS, still in the columns of Europe 1.
Hollande and Bayrou regularly exchange messages messages
However, the weight of the former head of state no longer really seems to be in doubt in the ranks of the PS. According to Europe 1, he did not hesitate “a single second”, and called the tenant of Matignon “to advance the files (…) one evening, while the discussions” were going in circles with Bercy, learned- on.
Hollande and Bayrou even send themselves to “regularly” messages, proof of the involvement of the first city in the country’s political life, despite the fact that his political family has not been in command for eight years now. With such positioning, he thinks – why not – to stand out very clearly by Jean -Luc Mélenchon and LFI to assert his own political line and his vision of the left. With in a corner of the head, the idea of a return to the foreground in 2027?
A longtime “political friendship”
In reality, more or less close ties between Holland and Bayrou go back to several years. As early as 2007, the two men saw themselves quite regularly.“We talked a lot in recent years. In particular in the Assembly, after Hollande has lost his responsibility to the PS. We know each other very well now. We appreciate each other, I think. I have sympathy for him “said François Bayrou in Lyon, comments relayed in the columns of Paris Match.
Close to Holland, André Vallini even spoke of a “political friendship” between the two men. More recently, in 2011 and then candidate for the presidential election, the socialist was not against the idea – on the contrary – of the construction of a majority with the modem, and therefore with the mayor of Pau. The centrist was then perceived as the rocking element between 6 and 8 %, capable of tipping the scale either towards François Hollande (PS), or on the other side, towards Nicolas Sarkozy (UMP).
