These seaside destinations are the most welcoming in France according

Airbnb is taking advantage of the upcoming holidays in May to unveil an unprecedented ranking: that of its users’ favorite seaside destinations. And surprise, the Mediterranean coast does not totally squat the first places…

The month of May is fast approaching and this year has many bridges and long weekends in store to take advantage of public holidays and the long-awaited return of sunny days. This year, there are many long weekends with May 1 and 8 falling on a Monday and many French people will seize the opportunity for a family outing. What better way to take full advantage than to plan a getaway by the sea?

To help you choose the perfect destination for your next weekend, the Airbnb site has just revealed the 10 most welcoming coastal towns in France. How was this classification made? Simply based on the glowing reviews of travelers by identifying the highest rates of 5-star reviews left by travelers in 2022. Here is the top 10 below: it has a few surprises!

  • La Hague in the Channel is mentioned in this top 10. Far from the most touristic destinations in France, and more cited for its nuclear waste reprocessing site, the small city nevertheless combines many assets including the proximity of magnificent coastal hiking trails and the famous Nose of Jobourg, one of the most visited sites in Normandy.
  • We stay in Normandy with Port-en-Bessin-Huppain (Calvados) also highly rated by Airbnb users. Open to the sea as to the Normandy hinterland, Port-en-Bessin is best known for its small fishing port nestled between two cliffs.
  • Heading for the Atlantic coast with Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré (Charente-Maritime) on theIsland of Re. No surprise since this resort is one of the most popular on the Ile de Ré with its six kilometers of beaches and dunes.

  • The Mediterranean, dear to the hearts of many French people, is very present with Eze (Alpes-Maritimes), which combines the advantages of French Riviera and the first foothills of the Southern Alps. The panoramic view of the sea still amazes visitors, as do the hikes nearby.
  • Le Croisic in Loire-Atlantique is also included in this ranking, which will come as no surprise to the many visitors welcomed each year who take advantage of its marine atmosphere, its beaches and its famous oceanarium.
  • L’Epine in Vendée represents theisland of Noirmoutier in this ranking. The town offers a variety of activities and walks. Wild marsh, port of Morin and dunes of Luzeronde are not to be missed, as is the observation of numerous birds.
  • Plérin in the Côtes-d’Armor allows the Brittany to also be included in this ranking. Unsurprisingly given the love of the French for the region, which has increased tenfold in recent years. And if Plérin is not the best-known of Breton seaside resorts, it has obviously won over Airbnb users, no doubt conquered by the Pointe du Roselier and its unparalleled view of the bay of Saint-Brieuc or by its beach of Rosaries. Not to mention its proximity to that of Erquy, better known.

  • There Corsica is not forgotten by Airbnb users who have chosen Olmeto in southern Corsica. The city has the advantage of presenting two faces: Olmeto Plage along the Gulf of Valinco with its translucent waters, its kilometers of sandy beaches and its confidential coves, but also the old perched village of Olmeto. Not to mention of course the proximity of the unmissable GR 20.
  • Brittany is back with the presence in the ranking of Plouhinec (Morbihan). The town reserves 8 kilometers of beach and offers many nautical or seaside activities. Hiking is not to be outdone with the passage of the GR 34 path.
  • We end with the Somme and the presence of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, a well-known medieval town in the Bay of Somme which faces Crotoy and offers a panoramic view of the entire bay.
