Some retirees and those who are about to become retired will be able to put a little more effort into their spinach, thanks to this new pension increase.
We are in contact with them for our administrative procedures, we meet them in hospitals, in schools too, we even elect some of them, there are many civil service agents in France. As of December 31, 2021, there were 5.67 million public employees, distributed within the state civil service, the territorial civil service and the hospital civil service. After their years of service, as with employees in other sectors, these agents retire. There are more than 2.8 million retirees from this sector, according to figures from the Drees, without counting the new ones to come. Once their retired status is acquired, they receive their pension every month.
Depending on their level and the number of years served, their retirement pension is more or less important. But with the cost of living increasing, it is not always enough to live adequately. In this type of situation, an increase is always welcome. And that’s good, because some retired civil servants will be able to receive a fairly substantial increase, since it is around 6.8%.
This measure was decided by the board of directors of the public service additional pension plan (RAFP) on February 8. The RAFP is a compulsory supplementary system, by points, which is reserved for all civil servants, permanent or trainees, as well as magistrates. To put it simply, retired civil servants receive a supplementary pension from the RAFP which is added to their basic pension. In total, nearly 4.5 million agents will benefit from this retirement supplement and soon from this increase.
The forecast increase of 6.8% represents “a higher revaluation of 2 points to inflation, very favorable among those of compulsory retirement plans for 2024″, indicates a press release from the organization. It also applies to all benefits received, annuity and capital, liquidated on January 1, 2024. If you are concerned, you know, this is not the first time that the RAFP has announced such good news to its contributing agents. Already in 2023, the organization had recorded a revaluation of 5.7% of pensions. This new increase for 2024 therefore completes the previous one and to make up for the first two months of the year, a revision will be applied in March and April 2024.
