these prices for consultations which will increase from the end of 2024 – L’Express

towards a consultation for 30 euros – The Express

The signing must take place around 5 p.m., this Tuesday, June 4, at the premises of the National Health Insurance Fund, in Paris. After a year and a half of tense discussions, the doctors’ unions and Thomas Fatôme, the general director of Cnam, will ratify the medical convention. This sets the new prices for consultations for the next five years. This agreement represents 1.6 billion euros in additional spending over five years for health insurance, 1.9 billion euros also including the spending of supplementary health insurance, according to Thomas Fatôme.

The increase in medical prices negotiated by Health Insurance with private doctors now has sufficient support among representative unions to come into force, after the favorable verdict announced Friday by the specialists’ union SML. The new agreement also garnered the support of the CSMF for specialists, and of MG France and the FMF for general practitioners.

Together, these four organizations weigh more than 30% of the votes in professional elections in the two colleges – generalists and specialists -, the minimum threshold required for entry into force. The UFML (generalists and specialists) spoke out against. The first union of specialists, Avenir Spé-Le Bloc, was due to make its decision on Monday evening. Here are the main changes for patients, often from December 2024.

An increase in the price at the general practitioner

The new pricing agreement increases the basic consultation of the general practitioner, which will increase from 26.50 euros to 30 euros, after having already increased from 25 to 26.50 euros at the end of last year. This demand from general practitioners aims to support doctors’ income. There will be no change for the patient, since the consultation will still be covered by Health Insurance and complementary health insurance.

However, since May 15, the fixed contribution, that is to say the patient’s contribution which is not subject to reimbursement from Health Insurance or complementary health insurance, has doubled from 1 to 2 euros. This increase in the remainder applies in the context of a consultation or an act carried out by a doctor, whether general practitioner or specialist, as well as for radiological examinations or biological analyses. However, it does not apply to procedures performed by a midwife, a dental surgeon or even a medical assistant. It also does not concern beneficiaries of Supplementary Solidarity Health, state medical aid (AME) as well as women who have been pregnant for more than six months or who gave birth less than twelve days ago.

Increases among the least paid specialists

The new pricing agreement also provides for variable increases depending on the specialties, favoring the least paid today: pediatricians, psychiatrists, medical gynecologists, endocrinologists or geriatricians. The consultation with medical gynecologists will increase from 31.50 to 40 euros on July 1, 2025. At the dermatologist, melanoma screening will be reassessed at 60 euros, compared to 47.50 euros today. The specific endocrinology consultation will also increase to 60 euros, compared to 53.50 euros today.

The consultation with the psychiatrist will for its part be increased to 57 euros. For care by a psychiatrist for children and an adolescent, the price of the consultation will no longer be increased by 3.50 euros but by 18 euros and this will be valid until the patient is 25 years old, specifies Les Echos. Enough to bring the consultation to 75 euros for these patients.

“Long consultations” for certain elderly people

Patients over 80 will be able to benefit from a “long consultation” from their attending physician, billed at 60 euros, reimbursed by Social Security. The idea is to encourage GPs to dedicate time to complex patients.

This special consultation must, however, be devoted to very specific cases, as specified Le Figaro And The echoes : discharge from hospitalization, work on reducing the number of medications prescribed – Health Insurance wants to reduce the number of “polymedicated” patients by 20% in order to avoid the harmful effects linked to taking several medications (iatrogenic ) – or even filling out the medical-administrative file, such as obtaining the personalized autonomy allowance (APA), financial assistance for dependent people. These consultations will come into force on January 1, 2026.

Teleconsultations (a little) cheaper

The new prices negotiated with Health Insurance provide that the price of teleconsultation be maintained at 25 euros for the next five years, compared to 30 euros for face-to-face consultations.

On the private doctors side, teleconsultation, which has become commonplace since Covid-19, arouses distrust, even hostility: they fear a disembodied and above-ground medicine which would replace local medicine. For the first union of general practitioners MG France, teleconsultations should not be seen as a miracle solution to alleviate the problem of medical deserts.
