Blood Moon – Red Dragon convinces with frightening intensity
Although Michael Mann’s film adaptation received good reviews and a Critics score of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the thriller was a disappointment at the box office and was forgotten. Five years later, the adaptation of The Silence of the Lambs became a worldwide success and earned Anthony Hopkins an Oscar. Red Dragon was remade as a prequel in 2002, but did not come close to the original.
Despite the star cast, it lacked the darkness and atmospheric density that can definitely be found in Blood Moon. Michael Mann is working again on visually high level and uses an expressive color scheme. Hannibal is shown in a dazzling white, while other characters are Midnight blue and red be dipped.
Blood Moon takes the audience into a hypnotic journey into consciousness of the traumatized Will Graham, who on the other hand tries to delve into the psyche of the killer. In the film review of FILMSTARTS, where Blood Moon 4.5 out of 5 stars received, it says:
The biggest argument for Blood Moon, however, is lead actor William L. Petersen (To Live and Die in LA), who plays his mentally broken profiler Will Graham with such a frightening intensity on the screen that the line between good and evil threatens to blur.
Blood Moon – Red Dragon does not involve much blood and still draws you into its dark spell, because the The true horror lies in the minds of its protagonists. In our opinion, the film is number 10 on the list of the best serial killer films.
