If you’re over thirty, you probably have a slightly retro games console lying around in your drawers. Game Boy, Sega, Mega Drive games… What are these old consoles and video games worth today?
Who would still want an old console when we see the technical and realistic progress of new video games on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox? And yet, retro objects always find buyers, whether they are collectors or simply nostalgic. Besides, if you are over 30-35 years old, you probably have an old games console lying around in your cupboards! If during your youth, you were a fan of Tetris or Super Mario on the Gameboy, or if you fought frantic Street Fighter battles on the Mega Drive, go through your drawers, because it might be interesting to offer them for sale.
How much are these old consoles and video games worth today?
On the occasion of Paris Games Week which takes place until Sunday November 5 at Paris Expo, an auction is being offered to gaming fans. Old game consoles, collector games and retrogaming items seized by the courts are in fact offered on the Drouot site for between 20 and 180 euros. Prices should obviously rise depending on the products and demand. Because today, the trend is vintage. So, how much are these old game consoles really worth?
- Price of one Game Boy classic : on average 125 euros
- A Zelda game of the Nintendo 65 console can sell for almost 300 euros
- Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) : In good condition, an NES can be worth between 45 and 180 euros, but special or rare editions can be worth much more.
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) : A SNES in good condition can be worth between 45 and 180 euros, although special editions and rare games can increase the value considerably.
- The value of a Sega Genesis in good condition is generally between 35 and 140 euros.
- Sony PlayStation (PS1) : A PS1 in good condition can be worth between 40 and 100 euros
- Nintendo 64 (N64) : An N64 in good condition is worth on average 130 euros, depending on the accessories and games included.
- The Sega Dreamcast is sold for almost 300 euros on the Fnac website
- PlayStation 2 (PS2): around 60 euros.
Note that vintage game consoles sold in good condition, even in their box, and with complete accessories can sell for more. Prices of course change over time, which is why it is recommended to do your research before selling a retro games console. Some buyers have sometimes found consoles sold in flea markets for 10 euros to resell them for 200 euros. So don’t hesitate to have your old console evaluated, taking into consideration the fact that it may be old, but that doesn’t mean it should be put in the closet.
