From 2025, new offenses will be able to be detected by automatic radars, using artificial intelligence. This will concern failure to respect safety distances between vehicles, failure to wear a seat belt and the use of a mobile phone while driving.
From next year, automatic radars will be able to detect three new offenses, helped by AI. From now on, failure to keep a safe distance from other road users, not to wear a seat belt or to use your phone while driving can be more easily punished.
Each of these offenses will be punishable by a fine of 135 euros and a withdrawal of three points on the driving license. The icing on the cake is that these offenses will be cumulative, which will allow the State to replenish the coffers a little more.
Initially, several hundred pieces of equipment would have to be updated in order to detect all these infractions. Existing radars, mainly Fusion 2s, will thus be equipped with intelligent systems combining algorithms with the analysis of filmed images. These devices should be able to simultaneously track up to 126 vehicles over a distance of 100 meters and 5 lanes of traffic. Note that the detection of not wearing a seat belt and using a telephone while driving should be subject to human validation, in order to avoid errors.
As part of this project, the 2025 budget plans to allocate more than 46 million euros to road safety. Urban areas should be favored for these controls.
