Acid watts?

“Acid house is music with a high squeak-oink content”, says Utrecht music connoisseur Paul van Dorsten. He experienced the emergence of ‘the scene’ from the start, then still in Rotterdam. He is still a great fan of electronic music.

The hallmark of acid is “that grinding and crackling of the 303 synthesizer,” he explains. “It is a subgenre within house music, but then a subgenre that is at the very beginning, at the roots of house music. Gabber, for example, came later.”

“The 303 was originally a bass synthesizer, intended for musicians to play automatic bass lines, for example next to another instrument. It was an extra tool to make several instruments play synchronously. But the 303 was different in the house of the time used, and that eventually created the typical acid sound of distorted, squeaky, grunting tones that still characterize the genre.”

According to Van Dorsten, 030303 programs “sounding names” from the scene. “I would wish that more people know about it.”
