These are the 17 dragons of the black and green

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Dracarys! We’ll be hearing more of this dragon-fire summoning exclamation starting in House of the Dragon Season 2. Because after the end of the first 10 episodes has the dance of the dragons beganin which the Greens and the Blacks go to war with their dragons.

In the season one finale, Daemon lays the bare facts on the table: Rhaenyra and her comrades have 13 dragons on their side. The family around King Aegon, on the other hand, only have four. You can find one below Overview of the 17 dragons from House of the Dragon and which faction they belong to. And there’s even more.

Daemon and Caraxes

The blacks are the faction around Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), who recognizes her as the rightful queen and joins her in the fight against the usurper Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney). A total of 13 dragons are (more or less) in their possession. After the shocking end of the first season, it is unfortunately only 12 left:

  • caraxes – Rider: Daemon
  • Syrax – Rider: Rhaenyra
  • meleys – Rider: Rhaenys
  • max – Rider: Jacaerys
  • arrax – dead
  • Tyraxes – Rider: Joffrey
  • moon dancer – Rider: Baela
  • In addition, there are still three unclaimed dragons of the Targaryens on Dragonstone who are not yet affiliated with a rider:

  • sea smoke
  • intermediary
  • Silverwing
  • In the 10th episode of House of the Dragon, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) also speaks of three wild dragons, which are located near Dragonstone and have not yet been tamed (or sung soothingly by Daemon). In the book by George RR Martin they have the following names:

  • gray spirit
  • sheep thief
  • cannibal
  • So the blacks have a lot of dragons and a huge problem: there are too few persons who could ride them. A solution will have to be found for this in Season 2.

Warning, book spoilers: Jacaerys Velaryon has the brilliant idea and launches an appeal. Bastard children of the Targaryens, so-called Dragon Seeds, are supposed to join the blacks. Thanks to their origin, they are able to ride dragons. The rush is great and so is the number of burn victims. spoiler end.

The Greens only have 4 dragons – we haven’t seen one yet

    Aemond and Aegon

The dragon population in the dragon pit of King’s Landing, on the other hand, is a bit clearer. Here are four dragons in all owned by the children of Alicent Hohenturm (Olivia Cooke) – but including the largest living dragon.

  • sunfire – Rider: Aegon
  • Vhagar – Rider: Aemond
  • dreamfire – Rider: Helaena
  • tessarion – Rider: Daeron
  • We haven’t seen the fourth Green Dragon or its rider in House of the Dragon season 1 so far. This is namely Alicent’s third son Daeron, who is currently in Oldtown and at a later point in the series is to appear – and hopefully his blue dragon lady too.

The three dragon eggs of Syrax and other dragons

The 17 (now only 16) dragons of the Targaryens are by no means all that existed in Westeros at the beginning of the war. For example, we still have these three dragon eggs from Syrax, which brought Daemon to safety in episode eight. However, these will not play a major role in the Dance of the Dragons.

What else will happen to the dragon eggs?

In the Fire and Blood template, only one dragon is known to hatch from the three eggs. This is about that dragon girl morning, which belongs to Rhaena Targaryen, Daemon’s daughter. In the series it has not yet hatched.

Three other dragons named in Fire and Blood are: Stormcloud, Morghul and Shrykos. At the beginning of Dance of the Dragons, these are still too young to be used in battle. Stormcloud belongs to Rhaenyras and Daemon’s son Aegon. Morghul and Shrykos, on the other hand, are owned by the Greens.

It is currently not known whether we will also see these dragons in the series. But the probability is low. Because it has long been known that a total of “only” 17 dragons will be seen in the course of House of the Dragon. But maybe showrunner Ryan J. Condal will change his mind before the start of season 2.

When does House of the Dragon season 2 start?

The second season of the Game of Thrones series has long been decided. Filming is not scheduled to begin until spring 2023. The second season of House of the Dragon will probably not start until 2024.
