The series Blue Bloods – Crime Scene New York has now been running for 14 seasons. Some episodes of the final season have already been shown in the USA, and the last eight episodes have been shown there on CBS since October 18th. Series creator Kevin Wade has chosen the big finale of Blue Bloods be inspired by other series endings.

From MASH to Sopranos: These 4 series are the model for the Blue Bloods ending

In an interview with TV Line in September 2024, Wade and executive producer Siobhan Byrne O’Connor admitted that they had been thinking about the finale for many years. He explained how he imagined such an ending where he gets his inspiration from had brought:

I’ve watched the series finales of great shows, from MASH and Cheers and The Mary Tyler Moore Hour and of course The Sopranos. I watched a lot of them to try to figure out what they might have in common, and what they basically have in common is that they put on a great show and then in the last few minutes they took a little turn towards
‘This is also the last of this series’ have done.”

What excites Kevin Wade about this approach is the fact that all of these series no looking back on past successes would have held.

Rather, the audience was treated to the finale a really good final episode delivered in their series. This was also Wade’s concept for the Blue Bloods finale and he gives one Hint at how Blue Bloods will end:

In my opinion, the season finales of Blue Bloods worked best when we found a crime or a criminal or a situation in which all of the Reagans were working together – separately but together.

And that’s exactly what Wade and his team would have implemented for the Blue Bloods finale. What exactly that will look like will become clear, at least for the US audience, in a few weeks. When Season 14 of Blue Bloods to Germany comes, we speculate here.
