Like every year, WhatsApp is cleaning up! Nearly 30 phones will no longer be able to navigate Meta’s messaging in the coming days. Find out if you are concerned with this change.
Time passes and some smartphones are too old to stay in the leading peloton. This is the case for these thirty phone models, which will no longer be able to access WhatsApp in the coming weeks. Meta’s messaging operates its traditional spring cleaning, at the risk of losing a number of its users.
Regularly, WhatsApp is forced to remove certain models of smartphones. Meta ferties each year devices that are no longer able to meet its minimum requirements. These being too old and too unaccoming, it would be impossible for them to host new updates and to benefit from the latest news. Their systems are not powerful enough to integrate the improvements regularly added on the application.
Find out below what are the 30 models condemned to no longer be able to navigate WhatsApp in 2025 and sometimes very soon. Between Samsung, Apple, Huawei or Sony, many devices are no longer compatible with Meta’s messaging.
Most phones incompatible with WhatsApp in 2025 have been in truth for more than a month. Since January 1, the devices incorporating the Android Kitkat OS no longer receive any updates and are considered abandoned by Meta:
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Huawei: Ascend P6, Ascend Y300
- Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
- HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
- LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
- Sony: Xperia z, xperia sp, xperia t, xperia v
- Nokia: Lumia 920, Lumia 1020
- ZTE: Zmax, large x
If these 25 smartphones cannot update WhatsApp, other devices will suffer from this same scenario later in the year. This is the case of certain Apple models in particular, which will know the same fate from March 5. After this date, they will no longer be able to receive updates, to the detriment of their users. Here are the iPhone concerned:
- iPhone 5S
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
Finally, note that the restrictions imposed by Meta for the year 2025 also concern access to WhatsApp Business, which is based on a system identical to that of WhatsApp. We therefore advise you to transition to a more recent smartphone, capable of hosting new updates and enjoying the latest versions of messaging.
